What these terms cover

These terms apply when you use the hosted Laters app at laters.dustyb.in. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the hosted app.

The source code is available separately under the MIT Licence. Someone else’s copy or modified version is controlled by its operator, not by these hosted-app terms.

The service

Laters is a local-first tool for saving links to read later. It has no Laters account, application backend, subscription, advertising or analytics. Optional Google Drive sync uses your own Google Account and is described in the privacy policy.

The Laters maintainer cannot see your reading list. It stays in your browser and, if you enable sync, in hidden application data inside your private Google Drive.

The hosted app is free and provided as available. There is no promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every device or suitable for a particular purpose. Features, browsers and third-party services can change.

Your responsibility

• Protect access to your device, browser and Google Account.
• Check links before opening or sharing them and follow the law and third-party terms.
• Keep another copy of important links. Laters is not a guaranteed backup service.
• Understand that clearing browser data, losing account access, third-party failure or a sync problem can make data unavailable.
• Pay any ordinary device, connectivity or third-party account costs you incur.

Acceptable use

Do not use Laters to:

• break the law, infringe another person’s rights or facilitate harm;
• store, distribute or promote malicious, deceptive or abusive links;
• interfere with, overload, probe or bypass the app’s security or normal operation;
• abuse, evade or exhaust Google, GitHub or other service limits;
• introduce malicious code, automate unreasonable traffic or impersonate another person;
• use the hosted app as a commercial, shared or high-risk data service.

Access may be restricted or the hosted service may be changed or withdrawn where reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, legal or platform requirements, maintenance or ending the personal project. Reasonable notice will be given on the site or repository where practical; an urgent security response may be immediate.

Data and security risk

No browser, network or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. You accept the ordinary risk that saved links or related data may be lost, corrupted, unavailable or disclosed. The maintainer is not responsible for unauthorised access or disclosure caused by your device, browser, Google Account, a third-party service, a link you choose to open, your misuse of Laters or circumstances outside the maintainer’s reasonable control.

This does not remove responsibility where loss is caused by the maintainer’s failure to use reasonable care and skill or where responsibility cannot legally be excluded. The privacy policy explains what Laters stores, sends and lets you delete.

Responsibility when something goes wrong

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits legal rights or responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded, including responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Where consumer law requires reasonable care and skill or another remedy, these terms do not take it away.

Subject to those protections, the maintainer is not responsible for loss that was not a foreseeable result of a breach or failure to use reasonable care and skill, or for loss caused by you, third-party services or events outside reasonable control. Laters is for personal use, so the maintainer is not responsible for business loss, lost profit, business interruption or lost opportunity arising from use of the hosted app.

Third-party services and links

GitHub hosts the app, Google provides optional identity and Drive services, and saved articles remain on their publishers’ websites. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices. The maintainer does not control their availability, content or security and does not endorse a page merely because you saved its link in Laters.

Leaving Laters and changes to these terms

You can stop using Laters at any time. The privacy policy explains how to clear local data, disconnect Google Drive and delete hidden Drive application data.

These terms may be updated when the service, law or platform requirements change. Material changes will be published here with a new effective date and will apply from that date. Stop using the hosted app if you do not agree to an updated term.
